Hi,
I am happy to say that I passed scwcd with 97% on saturday. I wanted to thank all java ranchers for their support in answering my doubts and helping in analyzing more on some topics. My primary matrerail for exam preparation was HFSJ. HFSJ book is really great book to start preparing for scwcd. I am thankful to Bert Bates, Kathy Siera for writing such a nice book for scwcd.
I was reading one thread here couple of weeks back on worth of reading HFSJ book for passing scwcd. Bert was frankly saying that this book is not for getting expertise on servlets/jsp. It is just for passing scwcd and getting basics. If you need to master these, you may have to read sun specifications on these technologies, which I have read earlier to reading this book.
Coming to my exam experieces, exam was not that much tough as that of HFSJ mock exam. When I took HFSJ exam 2 days before main exam, I scored just 44 out of 69. But in final exam I was able to score 67 out of 69. Dont disappoint when you get less marks in final HFSJ mock exam. I havent taken any mock exams as many ranches take like JWebPlus, etc... I read HFSJ book and followed all threads of scwcd in this forum. Apart from that I have experience in using jsp/servlets for 5 years(j2ee 2 and j2ee 3 but not j2ee 4). Also I went through specs of jsp/servlets/jstl.
I wish all the best for all ranchers, who are planning to take scwcd exam in near future.
And thanking you all for your nice attitude in discussing topics and posting interesting questions. Keep going..

Hi,
I thank you all for your wishes.
Hi Halena,
HFSJ electronic copy is not available for free download. You need to purchase one either from amazon.com or from your near book stores.

Hi Rizwan,

Congrats on an cracking score

As you have mentioned in your post u had around 5 years of exp. in servlets/jsp, so just wanted to know how much did that help, if it did

Does exp. have any effect on the score? or it is just solid preparation?

Regards

Hi,
Thanks all for your wishes.

No, I didnt get any questions on design patterns which are not there in HFSJ. I scored 100% in design patterns section. I got only questions on intercepting filter(2 qns) and service locator(1 qn).

As you have mentioned in your post u had around 5 years of exp. in servlets/jsp, so just wanted to know how much did that help, if it did

Does exp. have any effect on the score? or it is just solid preparation?

Yes, always experience helps and gives a good feeling in understanding. I say my experience helped me in reading HFSJ book/Sun specs on servlets/jsp smootly. At the end, it was book that helped me in the exam. Also I dont have experience in J2EE 1.4

Hi Manish,
The two questions that went wrong for me are in
a)servlet tech model
b)building jsp using EL.
Though second one is expected, first one is something obvious that i have missed.
I dont have target for scbcd to get 100%. My main objective for scbcd(or any certificate) is to make sure that i have understood all concepts given in syllabus and specs.
I started writing certificates for my own purpose of learning the technology. I dont get any advantage in my job by writing these. My employer even doesnt know about these and also i dont have plans to change my employer in near future.
Just I write these certifications to learn more on technology and to have nice time with you people in discussing topics.

Hi Muthu,
Thanks for your wishes.
Hi Ayudb,
Some times it happens. But never give up your hope. You can definitely pass next time when you write with more preparation. All the best.

I am thinking whether to give again or not. Is it really worth. I was may be hasty in giving the exam. Now I am not sure.... I will have to think twice before giving the exam again... Wish you all the best Rizwan!!

Here's my two cents: why are some ranchers so eager to pass the exam without being fully prepared? I think it's much more rewarding to know and enjoy the materials. Passing is guaranteed if you truly know the material and are confident. My two cents.

Alex, I agree with your post.
Ayub, we need to understand the subject well before writing the exam. We shouldnt study for the sake of passing the exam. Then it doenst worth taking exam. If you learn and understand servlet & jsp architecute very well and if you fail exam, still that fail worths..
Finally, what matters is your knowledge, and it is power. Exams are kind of certificates to your knowledge and you can survive with knowlege, without certification but otherway is not true.. you cannot survive just with certifications without knowledge..
Hope, i havent hurt anyone..
