hi to everyone...

iam doing MCA i am preparing for SCJP 1.4, but i have no idea about how much programming skill neede for the exam or studying the books and practicing with that examples is enough to take the exam.

Please anyone guide me in this regard i am very confusing about the it, the exam is for whom, can students complete it, how much tough it will be...

Hi Sakthi,

You'll find a lot of information in the SCJP FAQ, as well as the SCJP forum here.

In general, the SCJP requires a very strong grasp of Java language concepts. At the same time, it's an entry-level certification that only requires minimal experience, so it's definitely not intended to be that tough. Students or new developers tend to need about 2-6 months to prepare for the exam properly. Someone who's completely new to Java (or even programming in general) may take a year or more.

(Also, you probably will want to take either the SCJP 1.5 or 1.6 instead of the SCJP 1.4. Many, many new language features were added to Java 1.5, so it's not quite as worth it to be certified only for Java 1.4.)
