I just got a test status for SCJP 6.0: PASS yesterday !
Thank you Bert Bates ! Magnificent book, however I wish I did better, cuz you know, I got an 81 ........percent, -that is -
Thank you Kathy Sierra, fantastic Book. I suppose there's nothing else you need to pass the test... but, On second thought Take as many mock exams as you can !
I have a complaint though, The Review mechanism for the Marked Questions is not addecuate for the Drag and Drop Questions(in my opinion), When I started the review and had to review a Drag and Drop Question, it warned me that the Question was already answered, and that I WOULD HAVE TO ANSWER THE QUESTION AGAIN if I proceeded --> non-sense!
What If my answer is correct, and took me a considerable amount of time to answer it? I wouldn't want to Answer it Again ! I just would like to review my answer to see If I can come up with a Better Answer.
I am also planning to give SCJP 1.6 . Please can you tell me which topics i should really prepare very well, How many questions did you had on newly added topics (Cohesion&Coupling , Covariant Returns, Navigable Set/Map....)?
Can you tell me if you have any link to mock test regerding SCJP 1.6 exam...
That problem reviewing drag-and-drop drove me nuts! One work-around is to copy what you did to whatever they gave you to write on. In my case they gave me a dry-erase tablet and a pen with a fat tip that barely worked. I had too many of those questions to write them down.
To address your question directly, You should really prepare well for the Questions about concurrency. Make sure you understand Thread behavior perfectly, because the code presented in the exam is tricky, and you can't waste precious minutes trying to figure out the outcome of a piece of code. Be prepared to answer about the new APIs, especially Console. Honestly, it's impossible to say which questions will you get when you take the exam. But If I may dare to say something bold about the new APIs, focus on Console, But, as I said before I wouldn't be concerned about the new APIs. Focus on Concurrency, Generics, and API Content(The toughest questions relate to these topics in my opinion). Everything about File Navigation and I/O is heavily tested; Master every single detail there's to know about working with Files and Directories, and I do mean every detail(syntax, exceptions thrown, what can & can't be done)
And to reiterate, Concurrency is the hardest Topic.
Hi Jose, congrats! where are you from? brazil? I am intending to take the 6.0 exam. I am studing hard all contents of the 5.0, but I am lost about where to find material on the 6.0. Could you share any material you got?
Hey Fredbr Garcia, No, I am not Brazilian. I'm from Colombia. Regarding your question I only have to say that, you shouldn't worry about the new APIs included for the SCJP 6 exam. There are so many other questions on the exam that represent a bigger challenge than the ones about the new APIs.
I dare to say that, there isn't any material available about these new topics, However you can always check the Sun docs for detailed info, so that you can practice yourself.
Best Regards, Jose
