No.
Stick to EJB 1.1 only.

Hi all,
Correct me if I am wrong.
I guess some times a quetion may be asked on depricated methods or concepts.
Hi bonson,
I am also preparing for Exam 158 and planning to appear for it soon.
My question is : What is the study material you are using for WSAD. As I have not used WSAD.
Thanks

Hi Mohit,
Im going through the book on EJB by O'Reily.
Once im through with the book i plan to give the mock test on the IBM site. This way i'll get to know where i stand.
After that I plan to read through the redbook available on the IBM site related to Websphere server.
How are you studying for the exam? What are the resources that you are using?
Regards,
Bonson

Hi Bonson,
This is a good site from one of the Java Ranchers.
http://www.bm-one.com/Se/it488.html
I have read O'really Book on EJB.
and now studing for WSAD. I don't work in
WSAD. I don't have hands on experience. I have to just read. also I couldn't find much red books on WSAD.
I'll read through Specs for EJB,JSP and servlets.
If you know any resources in WSAD please let me know.
let me know if I can help you someway.
Thanks,
Mohit

Hi Mohit and everyone else intersted exam 158,
Since we are all planning to give the exam, why dont we all discuss and share info related to this?
Mohit, I had looked at red books and I found a book WSAD programmers guide. I feel its good. Take a look.
Do you have any info related to whether questions are related to EJBs in general or to websphere in particular?
I had heard:
70% questions are related to EJBs in general
25% questions are related to WAS
5% questions are related to Servlets and JSP
Is it true?
Is the approach I am taking to study the exam OK?
(I had mentioned my approach for preparation earlier) Or is there a need to do something else?
Please keep in mind that I dont have working experience on EJBs. I have only worked on Servlets and JSPs.
HELP.
Regards,
Bonson

Hi Bonson,
Your approach for study is good.
I almost followed the same pattern.
I also don't have working experience on EJB. So we are in same boat.
I agree that we should share the info.
One more good resource I found is a Long post by
Axel. ( Axel has passed the exam 158)
I have Installed WSAD now. And I am tring to get some experience.

I think what you mentioned about percentage of weightage given to each topic is correct.
But there will some questions on SOAP, that's what I guess from Objectives of exam.

Bye keep in loop.
Thanks,
Mohit

Hi bonson,Mohit (& n body interested in 158)!
Nice to know that u r in the process of preparing for 158. Even I'm preparing for the same. Preparing together is a nice idea.
I've done so far.........
I tried the hands on WSAD,EJB for a week (not in depth). I've worked on servlet,JSP for a month or so.
What I plan to read?
1 EJB - Ed Roman
2 servlet,JSP's - any good material?
3 client side programming - plz suggest
4 database connectivity - material Bruce mentioned in his site
http://www.bm-one.com/Se/it488.html
5 transaction - plz suggest
6 WSAD - redbook sg246585 (Mohit, this redbook is good for WSAD. Try it!)
7 anything else plz mention
Right now I'm reading sg246585. Hope to share info & tips from u guys,
regards,
Hemanth

Hi
great..!! we can all study together..hope more join in...!!
Now all we need, is someone who has cleared exam 158... to guide u as we prepare!!
1. My first doubt is what Mohit had raised earlier ...
Are depricated methods of EJB 1.0 asked in the exams?? Can we totally overlook EJB 1.0?
2. I'm using Websphere Application Server and VAJ 4.0 to practise... is it enough? or do i need to get WSAD???
3. There is one objective in the exam related to JSP and Servlets.. How much do we need to study JSPs n Servlets in this..??
4. Regarding databse connectivity are any questions specific to DB2 or is it in general to any database?
Regards,
Bonson

Hi Bonson!!
1.No idea
2.It is very much necessary to get WSAD. There is a section called 'Develop J2EE components with WSAD 4.0.3'. In the sample test 8 questions r asked in this section out of 53.
3.Can you tell where could u get this info (only 1 question in servlet & JSP)? I wonder if it is true as sample test has 10 questions in this section.
4.This section is about database connectivity and connection pooling with respect to WAS. As WAS can be configured to the databases other than DB2, I don't think there will be anything specific to DB2.
And guys plz suggest me the materials I had asked for in the previous post.
Regards,
Hemanth.

Hi All,
1. I could find one or two question about depricated concepts in sample test.
eg About access beans : Rowset Data Access bean is depricated but its still refered in question.
But I guess as far ejb specifications are concerned we can omit ejb1.0 completely.
2. I agree with Hemanth that WSAD is must.
Especially IBM specific extensions are drastically changed from VAJ 4 to WSAD.
Hemanth
We have refered O'really Book on EJB which one of the recommended resource for the exam by IBM.
Its really good book.
Almost all topic related to EJBs are covered in
this book.
Also try and read specification for Servlets and JSP.
That will definately help.
I will try to post new topic to find someone who has passed 158 already and can guide us.
Cheers!!!
~Mohit

I don't like that guy. The tiny ad agrees with me.
