Tausif,

if you want to get new knowledge from the exam preparation, then yes, you will get it. If you want another certificate then no, 486 alone will not give it.

You can find more info on IBM: http://www-1.ibm.com/certify/tests/index.shtml

486 alone will not give you a certification...

..but - if you keep going and do 287 & 484 you will have the much sought after "IBM Certified Enterprise Developer" certification (Not to mention a good foundation of understanding of j2ee architecture issues).

You will get your score report no matter you passed or failed. That's it from IBM.

It depends on the employers. But if you have time, better consider to take the rest for ICED.

another point i want to clear is, i have done 285.. what is the
difference between 287 and 285??

285 focus on how to use WSAD, such as which view is used for what, etc.

287 focus on how you use WSAD to develop J2EE applications, and how can you use WSAD to set the server configuration and profiling.

is there any limited time period in which i have to complete all
4 exams??

Basically NO, but practically YES.

Since ICED is version-based, the current version is J2EE 1.3 (IBM 484) and WSAD 5.0 (IBM 287).

If soon or later IBM releases WSAD 6.0, and said IBM 287 is retired, you need to rush for 287 before it retired.

And, IBM does NOT provide any upgrade exams for ICED 4.0 people to get certified for ICED 5.0, they need to take 287 and 484, instead of an single upgrade exam.

YES, there are totally four.
In addition to IBM 287, 484 and 486, you need 310-025/310-035 (SCJP 1.2/1.4)as well.

hmmmm this is bad... okay tell me one thing.. i m targeting only 486 now.
after that if i have mood i may think for the next exam by that time
287 may get upgraded as well...
now my question is.. if i do takeup the 486 and later they upgrade 287
exam do i have to redo the 486 or it will be still valid??
and how about the other exams as well??

i know i m making u guys life misrable.. but i know u will help me out

It depends. As you may know, 486 is focus on UML 1.x, and now, OMG has released UML 2.0. Thus, 486 may also be upgraded.

So far, for ICED 4.0 and ICED 5.0, SCJP and 486 are still remain unchanged. Thus, if IBM believes UML 1.x is still fine, ICED 6.0 may still keep 486 remain unchanged.

and how about the other exams as well??

I am quite sure that, if ICED 6.0 released, you must take 287 and 484 again for more up-to-date version.

287 is for WSAD 5.0 while 484 is for J2EE 1.3. The next version should be WSAD 6.0 and J2EE 1.4.

it means there is no harm in get into studying for
486.. by the time i will feel that i m okay to take-up
the exam, i will go for whatever version of 486 is
available... and if IBM changes any version of 484 & 287
my 486 will remain same (hopefully)

As we dont know when IBM will release the upgrade, so, just wish that everything goes fine.

Good luck for your 486 exam.
