Hi David
I believe that like you, I am looking for those certifications IBM and BEA mainly because they have a good market value.
If you check at any job site, there are more opportunities for WebSphere experts.
However I think if you have both, you will have the better resume in the world.
As far as I know, the best books for BEA are:
- BEA WebLogic Platform 7 - Jatinder Prem et all ISBN 0789727129 It was written for the old version, but if you check its review (Amazon and JavaRanch) it covers all the bolts & nuts of BEA platform. If you are beginner in WebLogic, it will give you a strong background.
- Mastering BEA WebLogic Server Gregory Nyberg et all ISBN 047128128X It covers the new version, but it is not so good as the another one
Mock Exams
- Whilabs have a mock exam for WebLogic 7. Unfortunately, now this certification was deprecated. They did not updated their product yet
- I did not find any another mock exam at Web (free or paid). So, my conclusion is BEA is not as popular as IBM is.
Also there are some comments in business that BEA will be sold. For example, this is the main reason where I work (former PeopleSoft, now Oracle) decided to move to WebSphere. Right now, I think that IBM certifications, will keep your resume polished for a while.
