Hello,

Does anybody know, should SCJP certificate be a fresh, or if it is 6 years old it is also ok for ICED ?

Thank you.

Any versions of SCJP for ICED is fine. No timing or expiration constraints.

Nicholas, thanks for answer.
Good news!

Another question, please.
Is there any mandatory time frame between tests for same certificate?
i.e. if I'll pass test 484 (for ICED) in next month, can I continue my sertification in summer, for example.

Hi,

I'm planning to do IBM 486. I've passed SCJP, SCWCD and SCBCD previously. Am really confused as to whether I'll need to do any other exam along with the 486 to receive a certificate from IBM.
Pls advise. Thanks.

Basically, there is no time constraint, however, keep in mind that IBM 257 is going to release, and thus, ICED 5.0 might be retired. Thus, in case you want to be ICED, I guess it is better to complete it earlier.

486 is technology independent, and thus, I believe that you might not need other exams. Of course, if you are interested in UML, you could consider OCUP as well. Usually, 486 is taken by those who are interested to get ICED.

Nick, could you please tell me what OCUP is...and where I can get more info regarding the same. Thanks for clarifying my doubt.

Nick, I am little bit tangled in IBM's certifications ...
What is IBM 257, I didn't find any information about it on the IBM site?
Is there any info somewhere ?
Will 257 be insted 287 (i.e. WebShere 6.0 insted old 5.0) ?
Now ICED = SCJP + 486 + 484 + 285, does it mean that in some time , when 257 will be released ICED will consists of SCJP + 486 + 484 + 257 ?
Or 486 and 484 also will be changed ?

Thank you a lot for you answers !

Test 257, Enterprise Application Development with IBM Rational Application Developer for WebSphere Software V6.0

Yes.

I believe 484 and 486 will also be changed because 484 is for J2EE 1.3, while RAD v6.0 supports J2EE 1.4, also, 486 is for UML 1.x, and now, UML 2.0 has been released for some time.

Anyway, just go for the latest exams are fine.

I'm not finding any certs on IBM's site that have an ICED acronymn. Anyone have the link to that cert role on their site. I'm trying to figure out where the IBM 486 fits into their bigger certification picture.

Thanks for the link. Four tests - one specific to Websphere. Almost a very useful industry test - except for that one IBM specific one.

For me, IBM 287 is the most useful one, as many companies are currently using WSAD, it is a good way to learn WSAD skills.
