Ok guys, dont flame me for posting a Tax question on a Certification Board But has anyone from the US listed his Certification Costs, Certification Prep Material costs as deductibles ?

According to Wikipedia

Unreimbursed work-related expenses, such as travel or education (so long as the education does not qualify the taxpayer for a new line of work; law school, for example, is not deductible.)

So IT people from the industry can deduct certification expenses because thats what we need for our jobs right ?

Interesting question. Makes sense to me. Work has always paid for mine, so I've never had to even think about it before.

I have made a practice of deducting it in past years, and have not had a problem with it. Generally, just make sure to keep around the documentation that shows what you paid for your prep and the exam itself.

Since I have been working as a developer I have tried to write off all my cert trainning books, practice exams, and any exam fee that.

Most years it is not worth while to itemize, just take the standard $200 educational deduction. One year I was needed to hemorrhage cash into education or donations. I decided to work on the SCEA and pay for some sun ed courses myself. Those were deducted.
