Hi Guys,
Am planning to do a certification in Web Services. My primary objective for taking up a certification is to enhance my resume. I have nearly 4 years of J2EE experience (no webservices though). Right now am a bit confused with the following offerings from IBM and SUN. So... can you guys guide me in making a decision? which one should I go for?

1 ) Test 807: Web Services Development for IBM WebSphere Application Server V6.1

2) Sun Certified Developer For Java Web Services (SCDJWS)

3) IBM Certified SOA Solution Designer [2007]

Thanks in Advance,
Kannan

The Sun certification is most widely respected.

Unless you want to work explicity for IBM or an IBM partner, I'd go for the Sun cert.

I'm current revising to take the IBM 807. At work we don't use web services at the moment but as we use Websphere 6.1 and Rational application developer, it was easier to get approval for the exam fee.

If the Sun web service cert wasn't out of date I'd prob take that in preference, but keen on taking exam early next year.

Also as I already have SCJP, SCWCD personally I think it would be good to have certification from another company for the Resume.

just my 2 cent

I would give preference to SCDJWS because this certification purely deals with WS where in other

SOA Solution Designer: Deals with SOA which is more then WS.

Test 807: Deals with WS development on IBM. That's means you would also need to know more about IBM App server, which is of no use if you do not work on IBM App server.

I would go for Sun. Also try downloading the Spring-WS and get some hands-on expereinec. It is quite impressive.

Better go for the SCDJWS. I think the new version is out by next year.

I would say go for scdjws because its not based on some specific product like it is for IBM.
The current exam is definetely outdated but its still used in a lot of applications. So, it won't be a total waste of time doing it.
Besides, the exam objectives are pretty broad and so you can learn a lot from
doing the current exam.
If you are not in a hurry to give this exam, then wait for a few months becoz
Sun microsystems is going to release the latest scdjws exam soon.
They have already developed the objectives for the latest exam.

In my opinion, you can start preparing for that. It sure is huge.

Sun's 1 is more industry standard specific and IBM's one is more product specific
