My component diagram contains high level packages and I am looking for a way to display all the components in my packages. I am wondering if these would be separate diagrams. One way it can be done is using clickable tags in Visio but then I wonder if it is standard UML. Does anyone know?
I also used Visio (Visio 2002), but I wasn't even aware that there was a "clickable tags" feature. But then, I probably know only a tiny fraction of their features. How does this feature work? It shouldn't be necessary to use any tricks to make your package diagrams though (though I did personally end up drawing them using rectangles, because I was frustrated with some of the bugs in their component features). My own diagram ended up a bit big, but I didn't think that that was a problem.
I am using Visio 2000. There is a feature called stencils which contains horizontal balloons and etc. You can place comments, links in there. You have to create links for each tag.
I didn't find it to be an insurmountable problem fitting everything into one diagram, though the final diagram did end up big, and you had to scroll through it to see it all. Especially if you use nested packages and J2EE stereotypes, I can't imagine you'd end up with something that was impossible to fit into one diagram.
