Hello, I would like to start a new discussion group discussed below. I would like to know if there is some one whom I can contact regarding this. My member details are given below
New Group Suggestion Certification:Certified Software Development Professional (CSDP) Organized by: IEEE Certification Details Certification Objectives Certification Requirements I hope if this group is started it will help a lot of people to discuss, learn and prepare for the IEEE certification specified above. Kindly let me know whom to contact. Thanks Ramakrishnan Seshadri.
Hello Cindy, The capacity of a person varies from another and also at different stages. I feel this certification is little more than the ability a programmer can do. The cert. req. involves from design, testing and also management which I belv. are good things that we can discuss here. I hope this helps you get my view. Thanks Ramakrishnan Seshadri.
Hello Mapraputa, Thanks for your comments. I belv. the below view of req. I. Professionalism and Engineering Economics II. Software Requirements III. Software Design IV. Software Construction V. Software Testing VI. Software Maintenance VII. Software Engineering Management VIII. Software Configuration Management IX. Software Engineering Process X. Software Engineering Tools and Methods XI. Software Quality is more than the capacity of someone whom u call as a atrue programmer. These days the projects are so huge, it take a lot of knowledge, effort and time on the above respective areas to make a big success in this growing industry. I am trying to define the ability of a person, but I am trying to make a feel about the complexity with which the above said requirements can be dealt. I hope I had told something that was useful to read. Thanks Ramakrishnan Seshadri.
I would think this newly proposed forum would fall under the same guidelines as other new forums -- if there's enough traffic/posts for a particular topic, a new forum will be created. Maybe there should be a generic "Other Certifications" forum to discuss this and any other certs that people might be going for... and if there's enough posting for the IEEE Cert, then there should be a forum made specifically for that. Just my thought...
It also seems that this topic could currently fit under "Developer Certification", as that forum is not necessarily limited to Sun's Java Developer Certification. Or is another forum more appropriate? In any event Jessica is right - I'd like to see some more traffic about this topic before we create a new forum for it.
Hello Thomas, I partially agree to your comments about the intent of Javaranch, but I would also like the people to learn, discuss about a lifecycle of a entire project which involves different parts of a team at various occasions. This certification tries to encourage people in all aspect of project creation/management/ecnomics/team management/testing and a lot more. I personally feel and recomend if this new group is started it will help all of us share/learn/expertise in a life cycle of the project no matter it is a Java or a c# or VB project. When Javaranch supports UML as a group, I feel it will not make any thing wrong by adding a new forum for this certification. I hope I have not hurt any one with my comment. Thanks Ramakrishnan Seshadri.
We cannot be everything to everybody. It is really important to stay focussed and our focus is Java. I am not trying to understate the importance of the things covered under this CSDP IEEE certification. However, if it doesn't directly relate to Java/Java development practices/supporting technologies perhaps it should not be a category under the Big Moose Saloon. Consider this - instead of trying to fit all the objectives for this particular certification under one (new) forum, why not identify existing forums that can address specific objectives? I feel many in the list can be discussed in forums listed under the "Engineering" category.
Open Group Certified Distinguished IT Architect. Open Group Certified Master IT Architect. Sun Certified Architect (SCEA).
Hello Ajith, Thanks for your comments. I agree we can start a sub-form under engineering for this CSDP IEEE certification. I consider this project lifecycle certification very important without denying Java being the cream factor for this Forum. Every project must adopt to some best pratices to make its success mark. I have also been a Java developer for 4-5 years and surely believe and dream the future of Java. I hope and would like to see a new forum started under Engineering for this to help all of us to prepare and enrich our knowledge on this IEEE CSDP certification.
I believe that Ajith said that we should use EXISTING forums, and NOT start a new forum. We have a "Process" forum for that can be used to discuss requirements gathering etc. We have a "Patterns and UML" forum that can be used to discuss design issues, we have an "XP, RUP etc" forum that can be used to discuss development issues and now there is a "General Computing" forum that could be used to discuss architecture and other stuff. What more do you need. I am not convinced that this Certification has a big enough audience to maintain enough conversation for its own forum even if we DID stray that far from Java.
seems to be one of the best anybody has offered. Plus , it is from IEEE. Testing the core areas. great. Plus , the precondition of 9000 hours of SE exp. in atleat 6 areas prescribed areas. I think this will to certain extent ensure good architects for organisations. Fantastic. Real certificate for true architect. Initiative is good. Look at the book list . Pragmatic Programmer making their list. Great. absolutely great. I am not biased about anybody. Whether new forum will start or not , it is immaterial. The news augurs well & great for industry. Ramkrishnan , why don't you start yahoo group for this purpose ? or check up with local IEEE chapters , how they are spearheading this fantastic initiative ? I will check up at my place about this.
