Confusing questions on non functional requirements

Hi,
I have seen quite confusing questions on selecting correct non functional requirements in books and on message boards also ( e.g performance, security etc. etc)
I think these questions are wrong themselves. Why should it be so confusing?
Can anybody suggest good link for this topic?

For Security there is a very good chapter in the SCEA study guide by Mark Cade.
For Performance :- No Idea
