Regarding logical separation of application components, imagine you'd have the following separation:
Client Tier - Presentation Tier - Business logic tier - Integration tier - EIS tier

Based on this scenario, would you consider JPA technology part of the integration or business logic tier? And why?

Integration tier, of course!
JPA is only about on Persistence. It is an interface for a db.
its work is to store and read data from a db, and load data into a business object.
