I am shocked by these allegations of bribery, although it may explain south korea's contraversial appointment of Bruce Grobelear and Hansie Cronje as 'technical advisors'.

Not being a follower of soccer, or football, or footie, or whatever the hell you want to call it, and finding it only slightly more interesting than curling or cricket, I would have to say that I hope the U.S. does NOT win. It will do little to increase the popularity of the sport here, and I don't think I could deal with the crying that would result (you would think a beloved head of state just died in Mexico  ). On the other hand, based on their conduct when they hosted the summer olympics as well as their conduct during the latest winter summer olympics, I hope the South Koreans go down in flames.
But basically, let the winners be a nation who particularly cares. We have the world championship in American Football, so what more could you ask for.

Regardless, I am not sure the United Kingdom have entered a team into the World Cup, but thanks for coming out. I am here all week.
I personally would like to see Senegal win due to the fact that if they win Germany dont and so on and so forth

IMHO Football is the best sport because,
It's well easy to organise a game. You can get a decent game going with 1-30 players, a ball and enough space.
There are so many different qualities required to play football (and they are all finely balanced), more than any other sport I reckon :
passing
speed
strength
dribbling
volleys
control
vision
heading
shooting/finishing
And the World Cup is the best and most interesting because each team has different physical and mental characteristics, which means they play the game completely differently (e.g compare Denmark to Brasil). It is really interesting when two opposing views on how to play football clash.
Also going to watch football games is so much more exciting than any US sport because the fans are so much more passionate. I've been to basketball and american football games and there has been absolutely no atmosphere. The only time people cheered was when the TV cameras were on them !!
anyway enough of my opinion, I can't wait till Friday - England v. Brasil... literally wetting myself - COME ON ENGLAND !!!

Is there significant risk of head injury from playing soccer? The studies and experiences to date would seem to indicate yes there is. The remaining question is how much damage? And how can we protect the players? Should we outlaw heading? This would of course change the game dramatically if not destroy it.

What a stupid game... everytime you play it you destroy brain cells. Hmmmmm... maybe that explains something about Europeans.

Ok, now it's a personal attack, mister. We are not analysing your sissy sports here. Clear BS about head injuries. I've known a few people who played semi-pro, it's legs that get the most injuries. How can you injure a head when it is a bone?...
First of all, in order to produce a powerfull enough shot in soccer you have to be a pro player, and really mean it when you kick. Even watching World Cup you might see no more than 5-6 powerful enough shots per game. Obviously, noone in their right mind would want to stick their head into shot like that. There's a chance of course, but that what you take when you go out and play a REAL game.
In hockey, when defender dives to block a puck, the shot is powerful enough to KILL a player, especially if it gets under helmet.
I've had it with sissy bicycle helmets and kiddy knee pads. Go out and play like a man!

That's true, but that might also be why most hockey players go to great length not to block pucks with their faces.
As difficult as it may be to believe, there is a strategy for how you block a puck.

That's beside the point. Whether your trying to block the puck or not, there is a much better chance of getting crippled from playing hockey than from soccer.

Hockey theme is here

Two best matches in this World Cup might be happenning today (tomorrow for some of you ): Brasil-England and Germany-USA. Watch for US start pooring money into soccer if they pull unbelievable upset here.

Well ... match has almost started ... I am in office ........... I have a lunch date so I couldn't go out.
My logic says that england will win .... bcos
1. They have a good defence
2. They are improving every match
Only about 2 hrs to see what happens........

That Mexican referee deserves a red card as well Poor Ronaldinho! Shame that 11 English players could not score against 10 Brazilians!
Any way, England played really well in this tournament. No one will forget that 'Becks mania' ever. I hope they will learn more from this and will put up a better resistance in next world cup.
Come on Brazil!

I hope that US team will be kicked out by german . The most powerfull country can't be either the World Champion, it would be too much
That's why I like this game, even a small country can beat a more powerfull country. What a revenge!!
Come on german give some KickAss!!!
I am still hoping that Senegal wins the world cup.

I bet the german "soccer" team would easier make a home run against the Dallas Cowboys than the U.S. "soccer" team a goal against Oli Kahn.
half time Germany - USA 1:0
(or is it touch-down? dun-king?, shoot out)

POOR DAVID SEAMAN.
Why does this man have to live with the burden of having let that goal in .It was a terrific shot and not many people might have stopped it . Its just one of those awkward kicks.
Well done ENGLAND........GO BRAZIL GO!!!

he should live with the fact that it is HIS fault it went in.
ANY other goalkeeper would have stopped that kick.

Now my heart wants Brazil to win.......but I guess the Germans are pretty evenly matched.

Hope that Turkey wins tomorrow, because I think >10% of the population of my city is turkish.
In spain vs. south corea I am still not sure about my feelings. I consider myself the greatest Fernando Hierro fan north of the pireneos. I know their language and had really good times in their country/ nice people. But South Corea is great, too.

Real fans don't care. Its not about playing football. Its about winning the cup.
