Hi all ranchers,
Passed the SCPJ, which is the next step?
SCJD or SCWCD?
And what can I do with web components anyway?

Well there were some earlier threads discussed on this topic u'll find 1/2 months back. My opine is that as certifications r not the only things to be considered u should first identify the potential jobs u r going to get as a java programmer. I decided for SCWCD bcz ---
(1) I felt server-side java & J2EE is going to grow up faster.
(2) SCJD exam voucher is much more costly than SCWCD.
(3) SCWCD certifies on J2EE while SCJD certifies on J2SE which i was already certified thru SCJP.
(4) Passing SCJD is more time-taking than SCWCD...
(5) Passing any of the following would make me same valuable to the s/w development firm who were asking for project experience not certifications.

true..but as long as u are a programmer...but how long...when u'll be a system analyst then SCJD will be more helpfull to prove ur analytical knowledge...price is not a issue here...
but...anyway...I'll complete SCJD after SCWCD...

Yap, nice opine. But as a system analyst i would have preferred SCJA instead of SCJD....

I'll take them all
The experience you receive from the SCJD is huge. You learn more than you think.
Ashik just doesn't like the SCJD.
So far I think the SCJD is the one that truely shows you know what you are doing. In the SCWCD you can pass just knowing the theory, without ever having coded any JSP or Servlets. Please no flames. Sorry for making a statement like that.

Nah of course not. I am just here working on a Saturday, while other people test out my release, and have glee on me when they find a bug.

hi,
yeah i agree to all replies form Ashik. i 've decided to take up scwcd instead of scjd.
again i guess architect exam requires little expereince in designing field which i lack and don intend to spend lot of money on those 3 parts after which i will go NUTS i might try those after 1-2 years professional exp in that field.
tho i'm 'ving little professional exp in J2SE.
regards
maulin.

.... ....I love Sun & spceially Java as many of you also. So how can i dislike any of Sun's certification exam? Rather it was my realization that the difference between SCJD & SCWCD are not very clear to many employers yet. And also that project experience rather thatn certifications are more valuable. Anyone with 2+ years experience with real-life java projects should be able to clear both the exams easily. In this respect SCJA should be a little tougher.
But i again say that SCJD is tougher, more standard and closer to real-life situations. Bcz someone like me can pass SCWCD exam without working in a single project (mainly by coding at home) which will be very tough in case of SCJD as you have to face a follow up written exam after completing a project.
And the voucher fee was really a major issue in my case to take the decision which one to choose....

Well folks Ive decided to study for both simultaneously. The initial cost is for SCJD. The SCWCD has no intial cost - except for the books.
Considering that the SCJD has no time limit, I can develop at my own pace.
Can anyone list the most popular books for SCWCD?

Currently in the market (that is in US not sure of other places) the most appropriate book is More Servlets and JSP by Matry Hall.
However, don't expect that this book is enough. Yes, maybe you can get thru the certification, but the book doesn't cover all the objectives.
You need to go an extra mile and read the Specs also (See the SCWCD links above).
And if I could ask, please please come here and participate in the discussions. Makes it more lively. As they say - "The more the merrier."
Good luck.
