Thanks to each one of you in the java ranch, who have helped me to get 94% in my SCWCD. Got 65/69 questions right.

I said special thanks to Bryan, for his notes on Dynamic Attributes. Got two questions on the same. I thought about Bryan at that time

Bryan, You are a master and I am not sure whether I will get 94%, if I attempt again. It depends on your questions, time and ofcourse good preparation ... But, one thing for sure ... Happy that I learnt a lot through the HFSJ, MOck Exams and Java Ranch ... Knowledge is the asset and not the marks

Friends, my preparation went like this ...

Got the grip on Servlet's and JSPs first. I went through "Core Servlets and Jsp" book by Sun Microsystems Press.

Went through the Servlet Spec once, some areas of JSP spec.

Started with HFSJ after all these. Did 3 revisions

Started with Mocks and did almost 20 of them. Thanks to ExamCram, JDiscuss, JIris, SM Rahman (sorry If I have missed some).

Then came to HFSJ Mock. Scored 73% and exact +20% rule appplied to me .. Thank God!

And yes, I went through the JSTL spec for just the core JSTL tags too.

The above information is given just for people, who would like to prepare in my way. SM Rahman mock was thought provoking ...

Needless to say, HFSJ mock is the one ... But take it after all other mocks to have good confidence.

great buddy... i 'm also preparing for the same but getting tougher as I am scoring 50% in mocks..

please, Suggest me some tips.. to score more in mocks so that I can give exam in 3-4 days

Nilesh,

Dont go into the mocks, until and unless you are clear in your concepts. Give 2 revisions for the HFSJ book.

As said in the HFSJ book, if you look into the mock questions, your mind memorizes the answers and thus you answer questions easily, when they appear for the second time in any of your mocks.

So ... better not to deplete your mock tests ... Have all your concepts in your mind first ... practice, practice and practice ... ...

I can understand that practice makes things better, but will it also hold good if I use an IDE to practice?? I tried installing and running tomcat, but due to some problems, my tomcat server goes down everytime I make a request. So I got soo frustrated and started using netBeans which has bundled tomcat. But when I studied the chapter on deployment once and tried the questions at the end of that chapter, I was able to answer almost all the questions. So I felt at that point that theoretical knowledge would be enough to crack the exam and to be honest, I stopped practicing and just study and grasp the concepts. Will this approach hold good for the exam?? What would you advice me to do??

Let me make somethings clear here ...

I can understand that deployment hierarchy differs between web servers. But, when you want to become SCWCD, you have to follow what SUN RECOMMENDS. After all, SUN has recommended folder hierarchy in its specification FOR US, so that people who are new to a web application know where different files can be inside an application folder.

All of us get bowled out in some or the other question in our mock test. What are these questions? They are mostly towards implementation. The knowledge which we can gain only through practice.

Theory and Just HFSJ can somehow make you clear your SCWCD, but practicing more and more will improve your confidence as a web component developer

just to make some things clear..There is nothing like different servers provide different deployment hierarchy...For any j2ee complaint server,they need to implemet the spec by sun..But they can provide extensions on top of existing deployment hierarchy...
Ex:Some of the xmi files which IBM app server has in its web deployment hierarchy..

but tomcat is really simple and eclipse has it as an integrated server.So you can just deply/develop everything from IDE.

I never tried working out examples as i had prior experiance but if you are new,its better to have installation environment.

Guys, will using an IDE be a good thing to do?? What all essential things would I loose with regards to the web server or with respect to servlets, jsp when I practice without an IDE?

I have to start caring for implementation for which I can acheive only through practice. Well, this is the truth!
