When I am creating war file for a web application,jar file with .war extension should be created out of the say "BeerApp"or we have to create a jar file with .war extension of all the files under the the "BeerApp" and give the war name BeerApp.war?HFSJ and study kit explains these differently

Create .war using jar tool as shown below
c:\tomatcat\webapps\BeerApp> jar -cvf BeerAppWar.war *.*
Above command creates BeerAppWar.war file of all contents present inside c:\tomatcat\webapps\BeerApp folder.
Copy war file inside tomcat\webapps folder.
Now application name is BeerAppWar.
