Hi guys,
I got JCD assignment and exam coupon and it will expire 31st March 2003.i.e within 4 days.Due to hectic work schedule I am not able to submit my assignment within these 4 days.Almost 85 work has been completed so far.Due to my project busy schedule for the fast 2 months,I was not able to concentrate on my assignment.
is it possible to postpone the exam date?.
Can I request the SUN people to extend the date?.
please let me know ASAP.
rgds,
Reddy.

I was in the same situation only last month. The first time I rang to book an exam date the guy on the phone said that I had to take the exam by the expiry date and that was that - he was very unhelpful.
Afterwards I read the back of my voucher carefully and realised that it said quite clearly that I had to take the exam within one year of the expiry date i.e. I DID have another year. I rang back ready for a fight but got a different and far more reasonable person. She scheduled me for the exam without specifying a date and told me that I just had to book a date for the exam and that date had to be within a year. I also got an email from prometric confirming this and telling me that my Registration expiration date was Feb 28, 2004 so it all looks kosher to me!
Good luck!

My SCJP voucher expired 28th Feb, but I called Prometric on 11th Feb and scheduled an exam for 14th March.
So act quick, maybe you can schedule the exam before expiry date of the voucher. You can also reschedule your booked exam.

It depends on which voucher you are talking about.
The Assignment voucher does not expire, even though it shows an expiriation date. The Essay Exam voucher does expire in 1 year after it is bought.

Thank you guys for your valuable information.
The thing is we must register Exam voucher details in any prometric centre before the expire date.Once you register there you can attend for the exam within one year from date of registration in prometric center.
It has been clearly given on the back side of the exam voucher.
thanks,
Reddy.

Interesting:
I have yesterday (9th April 2003) received two SCJD vouchers both expiring on 28th Feb 2004. That's less than a year, and they both say I must take the exam before the expiry date.
Is Sun changing the rules of the game?

Hi Barry,
Just look back side of the voucher what it is saying.

Hi GT,
On the back it says:
"You must register and take your exam prior to the date printed on this voucher." (Original emphasis)
There is no mention of any postponement possibility.
On my SCJP voucher ( I still have it ) it says:
"You must register for an exam prior to the expiration date printed on this voucher." and "Your actual testing appointment may be deferred for up to one year after registration"
The problem is: Sun Switzerland forces the purchase of both vouchers at the same time and they are back-dated to Feb 28th.

Since we seem to be comparing voucher systems
In Sydney, vouchers expire 3 months after purchase, however when booking the exam, the prometrics auto response says that exams may be rescheduled as long as at more than 1 working day's notice is given.
Furthermore, I did not ever receive a voucher for the assignment, although Sun did activate the download for me.

Again I will reiterate, that Prometric and Sun are two different companies. The voucher is from Prometric, and all their vouchers show expiration dates.
HOWEVER, the assignment voucher DOES NOT EXPIRE. I repeat IT DOES NOT EXPIRE.
You are given an unlimited time to complete your assignment.

Mark, I understand that that the assignment voucher does not expire. What I am concerned about is the examination voucher, which Sun has forced me to buy at the same time. I have read that one should take the examination after submitting the assignment. But the short examination voucher validity (with no extension possibility) means I must possibly take the exam long before I get the assignment finished.

Barry,
I had to buy my ESSAY vocher because it is a coupon from SUN (I attended a training class), otherwise it will be expired. I took the essay test on 03/28/03 and upload my assignment on 03/31/03, but that is beacuse I can't upload it for the first time as everybody else. I didn't get any response yet, but no complain either. So you can take your exam before upload, but for how long, nobady seems know the exact answer. Like Mark said, prometrics need both of your assignment and essay, so they can process grading.
Actually, the reason I reply this post is this: My original expiration date for my essay is 03/31/03, after I sheduled(03/21/03) my test date, the confirmation email shows that my expiration date is 03/21/04. I don't have a vocher for this since it is a promotion. This is in US. My best bet is check with the representative of prometrics, this assignment can realy take your time especailly when you have a full time job.
Good luck
Kevin

My exam voucher will expire in May,01.
Here in Brazil, the Sun also has forced buy boht
vouchers ( exam and assignment ) at same time.
My assignment project has been finished, i was doing just the documentation ( javadoc, readme.txt, choices.txt) and "stress" test on differents operation system. I am thinking seriously to do first the essay and after that upload my project. Of course, that right after takes the essay, i must not to do changes, anymore, in my assignment design that is imcompatible to the my answers in essay.
