I've been a lurker for quite a while and found the many discussions useful over the months. Unfortunately my first posting is to let people know that
I am a recent victim of the automatic failure for not implementing the 48 hour rule (my assignment is URLyBird 1.3.3). I did document my decision not to implement the rule in my choices.txt file.

As others have mentioned in past threads, the 48 hour rule is not a "must" requirement and thus failure to implement it is not grounds for an automatic failure. After seeing threads from a nearly a year ago discussing this same issue, it is discouraging that Sun and/or Prometric still have not informed the assessors that the 48 hour rule is not a "must" requirement.

I of course will be appealing. I am appreciative that others who have had this problem and have successfully appealed their grade posted what they did for their appeal. Such information will help me formulate my own appeal.

Sorry to hear about the auto fail, but you should be on firm ground with the appeal. Good Luck.

Excuse me, but what is the rule in plain English?

In the Background section, my assignment instructions contain the following paragraph:

URLyBird is a broker of discount hotel rooms. They sell accomodations for business and pleasure travellers at short notice, helping hotels to fill rooms that would otherwise be left empty. They take bookings only within 48 hours of the start of room occupancy. Curently, URLyBird sells the rooms over the phone using a team of customer service representatives (CSRs). The CSRs interact with an aging custom-written application that has been drawing increasing criticism from the CSRs. In the future, URLyBird wants to move into Internet-based marketing, and hopes to be able to accept bookings direct from customers over the web.

Hi Thomas,

I passed the exam 2 weeks ago and I did not implement the 48 hours rule. Also, I remember I've read a thread from one guy who has been reproved due to the same reason. He appealed to Sun and after a month or so his grade changed from F to P. So, don't worry to much. The 48 hours rule will not make you to fail.
Good luck
