Hello Everybody especially the Organizers of Java Ranch,
Thanks a million. This is a really, really cool website and the round up game is great :-)
I have absolutely zilch, nada, zippo experience in Java. I started preparing for Certification a month back and worked very hard at it. I knew C, so, the syntax was not difficult. But the theory was a bit confusing.
What I did to pass the exam was:
1. Studied Thinking in Java By Bruce Eckel (The first seven chapters make you very strong in the fundamentals)
2. Studied the Java Certification Guide by Simon Heller
3. Took a looooooooooot of practice exams. In fact, I took most of them till I knew why I was getting wrong what I was getting wrong.
4. I feel that the certification exam by itself is tough but preparing for it, really really gives you a flavor of Java and makes sure that you know the language.
5. My advice to everybody is concentrate on the BASICS and understand why the language was designed this way.
