Rumors is correct. And they're old.
Go to http://www.jchq.net for the latest on Java Certification.
BTW, I am moving this thread to the Programmer Certification Forum where it belongs.

Waaay back in 1998, when I started work on the Exam Cram book, the preliminary copy of the objectives that I obtained had all kinds of stuff, including Swing. Fortunately Sun returned to their senses and cut back to only minor modificatiion of the Java 1.1 SCJP exam because it would have taken a huge book to cover that preliminary set of objectives.
Recently I inquired of the person in charge of certification programs - to summarize the reply -
1. There will be a new set of exam questions this fall some time.
2. There are no plans to change the objectives but if they do get changed, there will be a notification on the certification web site at suned before the exam is changed.

ShivaKumar,
I would like to share my experience in this topic. I had scheduled my SCJP Exam on 6th of May, 2000. It was on a Saturday. I was almost all set to go. Just the previous Sunday, Morning around 10 am , as usual I was browsing posts here in Javaranch and in Marcus's site. I stumbled upon Mr.Bill Brogden's post in Marcus's discussion forum, asking a doubt about 'Are SCJP objectives changed?' like that. Bill also posted a link from Sun's site with NEW ADDED objectives with SWING,INTERNATIONALIZATION, and some more , I can't recall them exactly now. Already I heard from people that the objetives are going to change. I was hoping that they are just rumors.
But when Bill (author of the reputed book Java2 Exam Cram) himself had a doubt like that, my goodness, the feeling which we get , I just can't forget. It is ok if the objetives are changed for me, but we SHOULD BE INFORMED WELL before they are put into SCJP Exams I think. As any person who put real hard work , days and sleepless nights to prepare for the exam, and at the final week if there is a BIG CHANGE in the objective , you guess how I would have felt. . I almost beleived the change in objectives was true and started thinking of whether I should go for the exam, or reschedule it. I immediately posted here asking if this was in fact true or not? Did not receive any post here as well as in Marcus site from any reliable source. I just hoped , since it may be a holiday to many people, they would not have seen these posts (doubts about SCJP obj change) , and decided to wait until next day Monday. I also decided to call up Sun itself and try to find any answer. Luckily, next day here in javaranch another person posted linking to another page from Sun's site itself, saying the new objectives are not for SCJP2.
The whole week I also hoped there will not be another shock message like that and everything went on well.
So ,even now also I am optimistic that it is all rumor and if at all there is a change in the objectives ,SUN will inform us well before they put them into action.
Good luck to you.
