Hey everyone, I took the exam today. One thing I wish I did was scope out a good place to take the exam. My
test computer had a flickering, 12" screen and a bad mouse and the room was noisy with other test takers. As a result, I had to use almost the full 2 hours!
Anyway, I prepared mostly with the RHE and Bill Brogden exam-cram books. Also, I took the Marcus mock #2 and Rules Roundup. But I think what helped me the most was actual programming. I don't do any
Java programming at work, but I would invent little programming tasks for myself to complete at home. Nothing too complex, but enough help me to internalize the concepts.
Estimated question count per area:
Inner classes: 3-4
Flow control: 4-4
IO: 3-4 (know how to chain the classes!)
Layout Managers: 4-5 (GridBag!)
Threads: 3-4 (be familiar with the deprecated methods)
Overldng/Overridng: 3-4
Well, those question counts are likely off, but you've got to have a good grasp of the fundamentals in all areas mentioned in the exam objectives.
Oh, thank you to all here on the JavaRanch. Now, I can once again read for pleasure and not feel guity!
