I am quite pleased to say that I am now a SCJP with a score of 93%. A big thanks to all the moderators esp Maha for her lucid explanation on many topics.
OK, now about my test - Well, the level of difficulty was slightly harder than the questions in RHE CD. I found the difficulty level quite close to Marcus exams(esp exam 2).
But the astonishing part of the exam was I got 9 fill in the blanks question !! I got all those notorious questions on s.append(), MediaTracker and 2 questions on sockets.
Majority of the questions were on the fundamentals and lang basics. There was a very good though provoking question on anonymous inner classes with a combination of AWT concept. There were 2 questions on GridBag - Straight fwd ones. To sum up, there were
5 questions on I/O
5 questions on AWT
about 4 questions on Threads
2 on GC
lot of basics
But, I must admit that the wordings for the questions were very clear & precise - absolutely no ambiguity. I thought that I had answered all the questions correctly, but was quite suprised to find that I had committed some mistakes on overloading which I thought was one of my strong points.... anyway.....
About the books - I just stuck to RHE, JLS, & JAVARANCH.
Before I conclude, I'd want to thank javaranch. The strong sense of community really binds ppl here and I'll stick to this place. Also, a big thanks to Sherin, Erin for posting some good questions & answers. Answering to some of the questions really improved my own understanding and proved to be a good revision. Also, discussing with Mapraputa (esp Threads) was really fun coz her replies are well researched.
My conclusions:
Please stick to this site and try answering as many questions as possible coz it really helps one's own understanding.
Also, as Jim said, treat s.append as if it were s.concat() - coz I did that I got it correct.
Also, for the Threads - u'll find many lengthy discussions in this site on "What might cause the current Thread to stop executing?" - let me tell you something, as far as the exam is concerned, an InterruptedException may NOT cause the Thread to stop executing. I am quite sure about this coz I got 100% on the Threads section.
RHE is the bible for the exam & Marcus exams are the closest to the real ones.
Please read the questions carefully for the fill in the blank questions.
Its high time I stop here otherwise I'll end making this post a real drag.
Thanks all
