Hello,
This question is from JohnHunt's Mockexam. Can somebody tell why the answer is B? When I compiled this program and viewed through appletviewer it showed some error and the applet at the status line showed that the applet is not initialized.
Q. 64
The following code defines a simple applet:
import java.applet.Applet;
import java.awt.*;
public class Sample extends Applet {
private String text = "Hello World";
public void init() {
add(new Label(text));
}
public Sample (String string) {
text = string;
}
}
It is accessed form the following HTML page:
<html>
<title>Sample Applet</title>
<body>
<applet code="Sample.class" width=200 height=200></applet>
</body>
</html>
What is the result of compiling and running this applet:
A. Prints "Hello World".
B. Generates a runtime error.
C. Does nothing.
D. Generates a compile time error.
Select the most appropriate answer.

that is why B is the answer. It will work if you comment out the constructor.

It is giving runtime error because an applet must have a public non-args if it is providing other constructors(if it is not provided, one such public, no-args constructor is provided by Java). So the point is:
1. Either provide no constructor, or
2. must provide a public, no-args constrctor.

Hi Roshan ,
I tried your idea (Perhaps I am right in making the corrections as in // and remove Hello world as argument.But still Applet not initialised error is creeping up.
Am I doing what you said ......
import java.applet.Applet;
import java.awt.*;
public class Sample extends Applet {
public String text = "Hello World"; //convert private to public
public void init() {
add(new Label(text));
}
public Sample (String string) {
text = string;
}
}
