Does anyone know of any published/unofficial comparisons between native and bytecode performance? I just found GCJ (http://gcc.gnu.org/java) and am interested in whether it improves performance. The only interesting snippet I have found so far is 5 years old. Need to crunch these numbers some more to see if the diferences are significant (statistically):

Just curious about results, not looking to persuade anyone one way or another...

The performance of the sun-machine made big steps in the last years.
So I would try to ask the autor for the testcode, or for actual benchmarks.
