Hi All,
I have cleared the IBM 399 Websphere Certification with 78%.
The exam is quite straight forward. Although I have wasted much of my time reading the material which was not part of exam, below mentioned 2 resources are enough for scoring more than 90% in exam.
1)portlet-1_0-fr-spec.pdf -- JSR 168 Specification
2)sg246681.pdf -- Skip the chapters which focus mostly on being IBM specific.

Make sure you read every line of JSR 168 Specification pdf.
JSR 168 Specification is enough to raise your score above 45%.

Portlet Services is another important topic on which i got almost 10 questions.

Let me know if you want any more details..

Wow! 10 questions on portlet services, eh? I got a few, but not that many. They really stuck it to you.

For anyone else tackling test 399, or the new one, 829, I've got a bunch of mock certificaiton exams on my site, that mimic pretty well the types of questions you'll see on the exam.

I agree about the JSR168 tip. That's alot of the exam. Also, knowing what was available in the JetSpeed API, but not in the JSR-168 specification, can help you narrow down many of the questions.

Congratulations!!!

Thanks Cameron Your mock tests were much helpful..

Hi prafulla.. As I have mentioned no questions are tricky.. they are quite simple & probably you may not get any multiple choice questions. Only thing you need to take care is that you do not read immaterial stuff for this exam.
I will advice you to go through the JSR 168 Specification first before you touch any other topic. make sure you complete this specs 1st.
test given by Cameron are almost to real questions. infact i got 2/ 3 questions very similiar to what were there in mock exam of portorials.com

Also debugging is imp topic on which you may get upto 4 questions..
Dont go much into coding/ programming of SDO/ BPE/ Portlet Services..

Learn which all JSP's are involved in making up the themes Default jsp
and its directory structure. same way about skins & screens.

Make sure you know what is Personalization user interface & its engines.

Read the article of how cooperative portlets & themes & skins are configured in RAD/ portal server.
Which all designer tools are available in RAD!!
I will mail you the pdf required for this exam.

Let me know if you have any more concerns.

http://www.skywayradio.com/tech/WAS51/portal/ is another good site to learn few concepts for exam.

Hi Amit/Cameron,

I'm interested in giving 829 exam and I'm going through portlet spec and IBM red book. Are there any other materials available? IBM site says that red book is still pending for Portal V6

Cameron,

I went through your site and found it really helpful!

Thanks

"Narasimhan SL",

There aren't many rules that you need to worry about here on the Ranch, but one that we take very seriously regards the use of proper names. Please take a look at the JavaRanch Naming Policy and adjust your display name to match it.

In particular, your display name must be a first and a last name separated by a space character, and must not be obviously fictitious.

Thanks!

I'd say you should look at the JSR168 API document from Sun, as the book is very JSR168 heavy. I'd also say you should know the differences between JetSpeed API and JSR168 API. JetSpeed stuff is often a wrong answer.

I heard that others saw quite a bit of Portlet Services stuff. Make sure you know how to create and configure one.

One, maybe 2 C2A questions. Never my strong point, so I just guessed.

Good Luck!
