Hi!

I need a small help. I'll be writting the IBM WebSphere Portal - 399 exam next month. But I do not have IBM Rational Application Developer software which I can use for developing and deploying sample portlets. I had downloaded the trial version of RAD 7.0 but it does not have the provision to write/deploy the portlet.
Please let me know from where can I get the trial version of RAD that has the feature to develop/deploy the portlet.
Thanks a lot for your help!!

"Vrushali Bbb",

There aren't many rules that you need to worry about here on the Ranch, but one that we take very seriously regards the use of proper names. Please take a look at the JavaRanch Naming Policy and adjust your display name to match it.

In particular, your display name must be a first and a last name separated by a space character, and must not be obviously fictitious.

Thanks!

Hi Vrushali,

I think the trail version of RAD7 available from IBM site has the development and deployment features.

But only if you are using WPS6.x , i don't think there is any test environment in RAD7, you might have to user remote server attachment to deploy and test your portlets.

Hi,
Just to help you in writing exam. Practical experience is must for all the concepts that are there in 399 exam. All the concepts are explained clearly in Portal Application development pdf file.

Make sure you understand differences between JSR 168 and IBM API.
I have two portal project life cycles experience on WPS5.1 and I gave exam recently and got 100%

you can write sample test from Prometric. Its not free, you have to pay $10 for each test.

visit whatiswebsphere.com or portorials.com for few mock exams and concepts.

Hi Srivatsa,

Thanks for your suggestions. Actually I did install the trial version of RAD 7 and WPS6 but it does not have features to develop and deploy the portlet. Do you know from where I can get a trial version of RAD 6 and WASP 5.1

Thanks again.

Hi Vrushali,

What exactly you mean by the trial version doesn't have the features of development and deployment. You mean to say, it doesn't allow you to create a new portlet project, or new portlets ??

Even I am using the trail version, am able to develop portlets and deploy portlets etc..

am not sure if ibm still has the train download of RAD6 and WPS5.1, check it in IBM site once.

Hi Srivatsa,

Yes, using RAD 7/WSP 6 does not allow you to create a new portlet project or a portlet. This is very strange!! IBM website does not have the trial version of RAD 6/WSP 5.1 anymore.
This is very frustrating and I need to write the 399 exam in next couple of weeks

By the way, if you're using IRAD 7, you might want to tackle test 829, as opposed to IBM Exam 399.

I've got some sample exam questions here to give you a taste:

Sample Exams for IBM Certification Exam 399 and Portlet Test 829

Good luck!
