Square dancing, cattle breeding, ...
If it isn't in the objectives on the Sun site then it isn't in the test.

hello there Joe! i took the exam last aug 10 and i was pretty happy with the questions i saw. it didn't contain either of the dreaded socket or mediatracker questions... it was i think more focused on the fundamentals. what resources do you have with you now? i suggest you read more on threads...

Thanks to everybody who replied!
My "not in exam" list at the moment looks like this:
- JavaDoc
- Native methods (per Brogden/Exam Cram)
- ThreadGroups and named threads (per Brogden/Exam Cram)
- Beans
- Swing
- JDBC
- Sockets
- Servlets
Corrections or additions are welcome
Thanks all
Joe Kaz

Can anyone confirm that the modifiers 'transient' and 'volatile' are not on the exam?

The modifiers 'transient' and 'volatile' are covered by the exam objectives and questions involving them may show up on the exam.
You need to know that they only apply to variables i.e. you can't use them when declaring methods, constructors, classes or interfaces.

Thanks for your help Jane. I had some idea they were excluded, and I had skipped them out. I'd better learn them pretty quickly.

I believe my tutorial at least mentions all topics covered by the exam. If you find a topic that comes up on the exam I'm willing to create a short clip of me eating a marzipan hat and display it on my web site... now there is a challenge...

According to RHE, "transient" is on the test but "volatile" is not.

RHE is the short for Sysmon Roberts, Phillip Heller and Michale Ernest. They wrote a very useful book on SCJP certification exam published by BPB which we commonly refer by RHE.

I found the following in RHE p84 2nd Edition:
"Transient and volatile are not mentioned in the Certification Exam objectives, ..." But the book goes on the give them a quick overview.
In spite of what RHE say, it is safer to learn them.

The Language Fundamentals state you must be able to identify all keywords and as well as identify correctly constructed variable declarations.
If you don't know anything about transient and volatile how will you recognize if they're being used correctly in example code? Not everyone will get questions on them but better safe than sorry.
