How Server knows that client has closed the socket....(Server Socket is not closed...

Hello Friends

I am using java sockets,my client is writing on server socket and server processes that request and write back the result..., but after finishing the whole work client calls the close() on that server socket but that does not close the socket from server side....

Please tell me how server knows that client has closed the socket....
