It seemed more to me that Gavin was simply correcting false statements. He certainly did it in his semi-sarcastic way, but I didn't see it as a "Hibernate rulez yo!" blog entry.

I think David's right there. I didn't see any JDO bashing, just some sarcastic defense.

Every vendor is asked daily for comparisons between different products. Not having an answer would appear like Versant had something to hide. Versant's behavior was unwise because they proactively distributed the document.

From what CodeFtuures can see, a huge number of commercial projects are at least looking at Hibernate.

It must have been frustrating for Versant's sales team to have to compete with a product where the only costs are support fees to JBoss.

JBoss are no angels either:
