I tried the Sun web services tutorial. Very detailed, but left me in the dark as to where the samples should be installed, and what the internal meaning of the various build files (webxml, build.properties, etc ) were. Consequently had trouble getting examples to work and troubleshooting them.

Anyone know a source for more information about the Tomcat file structure and ant build files? Some thing preferably tutorial-esqe as opposed to reference? Thanks!

If you not keen on learning sun based webservice toolkit, then you can Apache Axis , this is also based java webservices, this link will sure help you to get started, Apache Axis got installation instructions/tips for Tomcat as well.
