802.11 is different technology. Bluetooth was promsing a lot and is still a ways off. 802.11 is here and working, so it's taking some marketshare, not hard against vaporware.

JSR 82 (http://jcp.org/jsr/detail/82.jsp) is the bluetooth Java API specification. It should run on CDC and CLDC devices. You can download documentation (including javadoc) and source code.
In addition to that, I think there is also a bluetooth API for JavaCard.

I am programming for a multiplayer game for mobile fone and having problems looking for the bluetooth APIs. some sites offer them for a price. does anyone of u know sites which offers them for free? or if u have them could u just email them to me? You might have already run across it, but Sun's API listing links to a page at motorola.com for the Bluetooth API. Following the links, I'm able to download two Bluetooth API documents, though they may not be the full-fledged documents that you're seeking.
You might be interested to take a look at the JSR-000082 public review draft and the proposed final draft of the Java APIs for Bluetooth or the official Bluetooth specification. For the spec, you'll have to become a member of Bluetooth.org, but Adopter Membership is free.

The new Nokia 6600 (expected to be commercially available in 4th quarter of 2003) will support the JSR-82 Bluetooth APIs (as well as MIDP 2.0, Mobile Media API & Wireless Messaging API). As far as I know it'll be the first phone supporting JSR-82. I'm planning to write a MIDP 2.0 Bluetooth game soon - I'm really looking forward to using the phone for multi-player games, and Bluetooth ought to provide much lower latency than e.g. GPRS mobile network connections (and no packet charges!).

So is there a midp phone that has bluetooth available in the US yet? What about europe or asia? I assume MIDP 2.0 allows for bluetooth but does not require it?

This is a question that must be answered carefully. There are many MIDP phones available that have Bluetooth (e.g. Nokia 6310i, 7650, 3650). However, these models don't support the JSR-82 Bluetooth API, so their Bluetooth is not accessible from MIDlets.
As far as I know, there are not yet any MIDP phones available anywhere that support the JSR-82 Bluetooth API. Nokia has announced one, the Nokia 6600, but that is currently expected to be available in Q4 this year (i.e. some time October - December).
MIDP 2.0 does not require the JSR-82 Bluetooth API. But a MIDP 2.0 phone (or even a MIDP 1.0 phone) may also implement the JSR-82 Bluetooth API, just as many existing MIDP 1.0 phones also implement the Wireless Messaging API (JSR-120) and the Mobile Media API (JSR-135).
