I'm new to j2me and just started my first project in developing an application for a pocket pc. I just downloaded WebShpere from IBM's web site. I can run one of their examples and bring up a cell phone emulator. But I can't figure out how to configure the pocket pc emulator (I doubt if they have one at all). Anybody has experience developing application for pocket pc, on WebShpere or other sdk? Any suggestion for a good emulator for pocket pc? Thanks a lot!
There is no PPC emulator in WSDD (Websphere Studio Device Developer). You can run WSDD's PPro runtime directly on your x86 PC. You can just adjust the window size to match the PPC screen size. I know this is kinda lame. If you have to test on a PPC emulator, you can use the one from Visual Studio.NET. You need to install the J9 PPro on it and then provision your application to it. Thank you for your advice Michael. But the emulator from visual studion.NET is written in C++, while wsdd is in java. How can I put them together? Can you give some more detail? Also I want to buy a pocket pc for testing my project. Can you recommend some that's better for running J2ME on it? Sorry if my question sounds dump, I'm totally new to the wireless programming. Thanks again!
If I remember correctly, the VS.NET emulator emulates the entire device including the the complete TCP/IP stack. The emulated PPC can have its own IP address and connect to its host via the ActiveSync. The WSDD allows you to run and debug applications "on-device" through ActiveSync. So, I suppose you can just use the "run as" menu and set up to run on the emulator as if it is a real device? I have never tried that though,
J2ME porting to Pocket PC(WinCE) is it possible I need to create a java application for Pocket PC(PPC), I have problme finding virtual machines that will support such developement, I wonder if it is possible for me to port J2ME applications to PPCs,,(with a middle ware supporting Virtual Machine of course)
