Hi,
I've reviewed alot of the topics posted here re: the exams (1.2 vs 1.4).
I conclude that if I've studied for 1.2 exam ( 310-025) that it is wise to plan on taking the 1.4 exam anyway ... while preping up on the Collections and Assertions topics additionally.
Note: of the many books I have come accross, I use "Java2, Sun Certified Programmer for Java 2 (Exam 310-025)" by Syngress/Osborne ...
also noting that the follow on to this book (for the 1.4 exam) is written by Kathy Sierra :
Sun Certified Programmer & Developer for Java 2 Study Guide: Exam 310-035 & 310-037
by Kathy Sierra

Here's my question: Is the Sun practice exam for the 1.4 exam a good value worth spending $75 on ?
I appreciate the help!

how's this -- I'll answer your question without really answering it -->
I've not taken the Sun exam, so I can't comment on its value. However, I think there are enough free Mock exams out there (Marcus Green's, Mughal's, Dan Chisholm's, Valentin Crettaz's to name a few) that you can do without it.
However, if after taking those Mocks, you feel you still need to practice and test some more. By all means take the Sun practice test. But (coming from someone who's aware of today's crappy economy and how tight money is) try using the free ones first.
