The version of Java Exam Cram 2 that Marcus and I are just finishing up is strictly devoted to the 1.4 exam (310-035). The publisher is Que Publishing - who took over the Exam Cram line after the demise of Coriolis. The publication date is in early March.
The Exam Cram books are designed to be a compact review of a subject, not a beginner's introduction.

My exam does not contain the two 1.2 topics: AWT and IO.

True that the Whiz is not free, but $US29 seems very reasonable for so many well thought out questions.
