2 years, check this out: SUN RECERTIFICATION POLICY

Unless otherwise stated, and beginning with all Sun Certification exams taken after September 1, 2002, certification offerings from Sun are valid for two (2) years from the date of certification. The certification date will appear on both a certificate and an identification card with the applicable certification title. The identification card will also include an expiration date, on which an IT professional's Sun certification status expires.

Hi Jessica,
Thanks for the info.
But guys, I think its unfair to have a period for validity for certification.
After all, once we graduate, thats valid till we are alive.
Same must be the rule for certification, I think.
What do u think guys ?

another good idea would be, u shouldnt stop with scjp alone , just slog and struggle to finish some jcert higlevel stuff or IBM stuff(like Enterprise developer) which require scjp as a basic qualification , since those certs dont have expiry dates(As of now !! dont know Tomorrow) this validity of scjp could be preserved for life long !!! (Collectively u will be a developer say by IBM ..) careful dont take suns cert since all of its certs are now MORTAL !!! even hard certs like Architect die in 2 yrs ..painful ha .... whic also is going to make sun MORTAL (already its on that path)

Saith, there was a topic posted yesterday that addressed books for the 1.4 exam. I agree with the recommendations that were made in that thread.
Dan Chisholm's mock exams contain questions on the 1.4 topics
