which one is better SCJP 1.2 / 1.4

Hello there,
Long ago I prepared for SCJP 1.2 exam but couldn't give . Now again I wanna prepare for SCJP certification & give the exam.But I am confused with which one to give,weather SCJP 1.2 or SCJP 1.4?Which one is better & is in demand?Please anybody suggest me in this regard.

1.4 all the way !!
It's new, it's improved ! It's a response to what Sun clients all over the world said they wanted.
1.2 is in its 'sunset' years, a little long in the tooth...
Even though the questions are a bit tougher in 1.4, the topics to be studied are fewer, so overall I think 1.4 is a little easier to study for...
(no I/O and no AWT)

Thank you, Mr. Berts. Is there possibility of getting IO, NIO or awt in the exam any time?

Thank you Berts.I have read "The complete java 2 certification study guide by simon roberts ,philip heller , michael ernest".Which book I should buy to upgrade my self for 1.4 version?I just wanna start from the scratch?Does "A Programmer's Guide to Java Certification
by Khalid Azim Mughal, Rolf Rasmussen" cover objectives of 1.4?Please let me know if there are any other books.

There is a book on 1.4 written by Kathy Sierra and Bert Bates. It is supposed to be a good book. Check it out.

The 1.4 exam is still almost new - I think it went live around August of last year. I don't think Sun will be updating it any time soon.
Veena - JavaRanch has a book review section that discusses many Java books...

Is there any online book that covers the 1.4 specification, such as a pdf file?

Yes, Kathy and Bert's book covers the 1.4 exam.

i have bought 2 books. they both are about as big as each other. kathy and bert's book is well written. i prefer it to the "complete java 2 certification" by Roberts and Heller.
but - i haven't done the exam yet so i guess my advice is only hypothetical!
