hi:
I am taking the exam tomorrow, and I want to know if it is allowed to use a piece of paper to calculate things.
Thanks

You are not allowed to take paper and pencil (for that matter any materials) to the exam. Cell phones should be turned off. My test center asked me leave everything behind (they kep it in a safe for me) including books, bags etc.
They will provide you paper and pencil, which you have to return (used and unused) at the end of exam.

my experience is similar to that of Unni (all persoanl stuff left behind), but i am allowed to bring a bottle of water into the exam room.
you also allowed to take restroom break during exam while clock timer keeps counting down.
