Hi,
I just attempted the masterexam available with their book. I have some doubts about that. I don't know but I'm really confused with it because of the following:
a) There were 65 questions to be answered in 1:30 hours. I thought that in the real exam, there are 61 Q in 2 hrs. Why is this inconsistency? It doesn't make any sense to me why it's like that.
b) The clock always showed up continously. In real exam also, will it be there and you can't turn it off because to me it was kind of a distraction. There should be an option to turn it off.
c) I scored 50/64 Q and it says I failed. Scored some 769 points and the passing grade was 800. What's all this? I have no idea. Some of the questions were wrong because of lack of time that involved little bit of complex logic.
Anybody who has attempted those exams - can you please answer this?
Thanks,
Deep

The simulation exam that comes with K&B's book does not match the real exam in any way except for the similarity between the questions on the exam and the real exam.
The real exam will be as described in their book not as done by the masterexam software.

Hi Deep,
Yes the MasterExam that comes with K&B book has some errors. But you didn't understand the purpose of the exam i guess. The whole purpose of the mock exam is to train you hard,so the real exam will be little bit easy when comapred to this.
It will be tough becasue of the following reasons.
1)It will have more questions than the actual exam.
2)The time duration will be less than the actual exam.
3)The passing score will be more than the actual exam,so that you don't take the exam very lightly.
The whole purpose is you try to solve as many questions as possible in a less duration.
I don't know about you, I have used lots of mock exams for java as well for the Microsoft exams. All of them I used were like this.I didn't take any exams until i scored 95% in the mock exams. I was scoring around 95% in the master exam and the other mock exams, but in the real exam i scored only 85%.
Yes the clock will always run in the real exam too. I don't know whether you can turn that off or hide it.
Hope this might provide you some help.
Thanks,
Arun.

Does that mean that *generally* people get lower score than the one they get on mock exams like Dan's mock exams? I thought that generally ppl get more in real exam than the mock ones?

It depends on whose mock exams you take.
Certainly it seems most people score higher on the real exam than Dan's since Dan's are really hard and include a lot of things either not covered on the real exam or covered in less detail on the real exam.
However, the Masterexam mocks and the one you can find on www.examulator.com if you look carefully, will give you a fairly accurate representation of what you will score on the real exam.
Of course it depends on how nervous you are as well. If you are relaxed you should do fine if you are scoring 80% or higher on the masterexam mocks and you can do all the questions in K&B's book with little trouble.
Check the results forum you will find tons of people who have given advice after taking the exam.
