Extending Thread class

While I was writing some code to practice on multithreading, I stumbled the following compiler error.
I don't know why I can not use the (String name) constructor.
Can anybody explain?

  public void run() {
    for (int i = 1; i <= 10; i++) {
      System.out.println(Thread.currentThread().getName() + " i = " + i);
    }
  }
}
public class InstantiateThreadTest {
  public static void main(String[] args) {

    Thread myThread = new MyThread("ExtendedThread"); // compiler error here

Constructors are not inherited. Since MyThread declares no constructors, it only has the default one.

Hi David,
The class MyThread needs a constructor with a String parameter.

class MyThread extends Thread {
    MyThread() {}
    MyThread(String name) { super(name); }
    public void run() {}
}

Your are declaring myThread twice.
Since the constructors are not inherited you may include a no-argument construcor and a constructor which takes a String argument in your MyThread class.
