I had been reading K&B book and i am going thru the mock exams.
Just to know whether it is necessary to go thru the Java Language
Specification thoroughly before taking up the exam.

I have never read straight through the JLS and I wouldn't expect anyone to. Seems like a waste of time, if you ask me. However, you certainly should be able to reference the JLS and quickly find what you're looking for. If you can handle that, you can handle just about anything you'd run into.
