I was checking out Marcus green's mock exams and exams 1&2 had some questions on swing, data streams etc, so are these for the older version of the exam(1.2) and the one that has the simulator the one for the 1.4 version?

Yes, I believe so. The 1.4 exam cut out those things but added questions about collections and assertions.

Don't take my word for it though, check the sun website for the official list of exam objectives for the 1.4 exam. Also, a good study book will help you if you don't already have one. I am using the Kathy Sierra and Bert Bates book.

I give a hint about this in the text in large font at the top of the exam that says

This exam is based on the objectives of the JDK 1.2 exam.

However you can view some questions based on the JDK 1.4 exam at
