StringBuffer sb2 = sb;//line1
StringBuffer sb3 = new StringBuffer("Chester");
sb=sb3;//line 2
sb3=null;//line 3
sb2=null; //line 4

can anybody expalin me how many objects are gc after line 3.

when does sb is gc.

At line 3 no object is garbaged collected.
At line 4 object refered by sb is gc'ed.

am i right....

except that they are eligible for gc, and there is no guarantee they are gc'd yet.
 
With a little knowledge, a cast iron skillet is non-stick and lasts a lifetime.
