Hello Every1 Frm Your New Friend at JR,

Well friends, here's my Story in short: I been programming professionally for nearly 3 years in VB (AceSpy being one of my creation). Never Java came to my mind perhaps coz of my busy schedule. Tho I digged JavaScript but I always been MS fan. I learned ASP, ADO and everything else but not Java.

Recently VB 6.0 went unsupported by MicroSoft, they said Switch to .NET or die. Now I had a choice, either to switch to .NET or Java, and I am prefering Java coz of two reason: platform independence, free, been there for longer time than Java, Original (not a copy like .net) okay its 4.

So I have to filter time out to learn it, so I thought preparing for SCJP will be the best to start, I got K&B and had gone thru it once swiftly. Now I am rereading, and doing the mock tests questions.

I want to know how to prepare for the exam? Will K&B and mock tests enuf, I am planning for 1.4, coz that wat I read & the certificate dont mention d version. Shud I do courses, training?

Thanks and tell me your view plz,
Zeeshan Alam

Hello Zeeshan,

Welcome to JavaRanch.

Will K&B and mock tests enuf, I am planning for 1.4,
In my opinon, K&B covers everything required for SCJP 1.4 and its mocks are close to the actual exam. Of course, I did attempt other mocks listed here as well. JavaRanch Certification Result is a good place where you can find lots of secrets of success from the SCJPers. Also, do check out the JavaRanch SCJP FAQ, it contains many useful info and resources, mainly for 1.4 and 1.2 though.

that wat I read & the certificate dont mention d version.
The exam version will be printed on the certificate, read "What is Sun's new Certification Policy?" for more details. For example, on a SCJP 1.4 certificate, it prints "FOR THE JAVA PLATFORM 1.4"; on a SCJP 5.0, it prints "FOR THE JAVA 2 PLATFORM, STANDARD EDITION 5.0".

Shud I do courses, training?
Personally, I don't think it's necessary.

The title wont compile!
It's OK. Since you started this topic, you can edit the title any time you wish using the little pencil-and-paper icon along the top edge of your first post.

Yes, check your parentheses and braces. Our title compiler should then work

Is that better now?
