Should I take SCJP 5.0 or SCJP 1.4 and upgrade to 5.0 later?
I think take SCJP 1.4 is better, because SCJP 5.0 is much harder than 1.4 (read from this web), take more time to prepare, and lack of materials/mock exams.

Well, my biased opinion is that because 5.0 is tougher, it has even more value. The 1.4 is valuable, don't get me wrong. But if I was a hiring manager and I saw that the person passed the 5.0 exam, I'd feel more confident in hiring them.

Oh, one more comment. If you don't want to learn more about Java and study harder for the 5.0 then how are you on the job, do you not take the more challenging tasks?

How about get SCJP 1.4 first and then get next certifications such as SCWCD 1.4, SCBCD 1.3, SCDJWS, etc. After that, when there are more books/materials, mock exams for SCJP 5.0 then it's a good time to upgrade. Don't you think it's a good idea?

However, just take SCJP 5.0 has an advantage, because it save time and cost. But exam result may bad because of lacks of materials/mock exams. If take SCJP 5.0 (upgrade) later, exam result should be better (look good in resume).
What is your opinion about that?
