Is it better to take one of the courses offered by Sun to prepare for the SCJP than to buy some books on Java programming and study on your own? I am thinking about taking the course, SL-275, but it seems to be rather expensive.

If you can get your company to pay for you taking the course then why not but otherwise I would say, stick with self-study.

hello Sasha,

if the courses u find are expensive settle down for couple of books on java certification namely,

1.Kathy & Bates (popularly known as K&B)
2. Khalid Mughal

They will give a base and clear idea about java and SCJP exam.

Hope this helps,

Regards,

Shafi.
