Hi Friends,

I have a scjp 1.4 certification and need to do the 5.0 upgrade exam CX-310-056 .

I had a look at the objectives, but they seem to include a lot, that was covered in 1.4 exam itself .
Can some one guide me on what topics to prepare, is it enough i read the only the new stuff in 5.0 ?

Any specific material that covers this upgrade part ?

Thanks and Regards,
Rufus

I believe only a few people took the upgrade exam, so, you might have to be patient to wait for their replies.

Based on the beta experiences, the most difficult part was Generics. In addition, although the objectives for SCJP 1.4 and SCJP 5.0 are the same, the style of the questions are totally different, and SCJP 5.0 is much harder.

Thanks Nick ,

I guess I have to revise the entire lot of 1.4 and then master the new contents of 5.0

Thanks and Regards,

Sorry for not responding sooner - I just noticed this thread this morning. :-\ I took 310-056 about two weeks ago, and haven't really been paying as close attention in here as I could have been.... yeahwell.

Anyway.

What I found while studying for the exam is that there really isn't a lot of material that's out there for the upgrade specifically. What I could advise (I was upgrading, admittedly, from 1.2 to 5) is to concentrate on those new requirements in the test objectives that were not on the 1.4 exam.

I did use a few books and websites (a brief look through HFJ 2nd edition, my Tiger developers' notebook, glances at online reviews of the JSE 5.0 objectives), but the lack of available material at the moment kind of shows in my poor showing on the exam - I passed, but not by much (hence why I didn't say anything in the results forum).

I've found that upgrades seem to be harder - at least to me - than the regular exams, if only because they concentrate on what's changed rather than giving you some of the easy questions you'd normally get with the unchanged areas included. Just make sure you're solid on your 1.4 items and move forward from there with the changed objectives.
