Why aren't applets used for CRUD applications

What are the reasons more people don't use them? Is it just slow download time? Do people like HTML interface better?

I would say there are fewer problems getting a basic html form to render, as opposed to getting an applet to show up (not everybody already has a JRE installed). For basic data entry I don't see much of a gain for the extra work and risk of problems.

IMO, actionscript seems to have taken off -- some of the stuff on the net that uses flash puts the applet stuff to shame.
