I find it hard to believe that someone who knows SQL, PHP, and uses Dreamweaver can't install Java. Heck, some Java support (
servlets) is built into Dreamweaver, not to mention
JSP, ASP, Coldfusion, etc.
In any case, there is no "why". If you see that Java is of no help to your career, or even if you have no desire to learn it, there is no reason to learn it. There is already too much to learn out there, learn something that you will enjoy, something that you have a passion using, and let the other stuff fall into place.
IMHO, I would suggest learning one of the many many options available from Dreamweaver. Other options including learning one of Dreamweaver's sister programs, like fireworks or flash.
