This is from a spammer who has spoofed an address which appears to come from JavaRanch staff (email@example.com). I recommend that you do NOT open the attachment. [ June 02, 2005: Message edited by: Marilyn de Queiroz ]

These criminals are getting ever more clever, but they've become to clever for their own good now. I'm getting similar messages ostensibly from my server admin, except that's me (as I run my own mailserver)
Sure, but Javaranch is still a web thing and so we are challenged by the side effects of The WWW Internet.
I recommend that Javaranch staff and volunteers do a thorough audit on the uses of their internal systems. Until I joined Javaranch, I got very few spam emails at my personal email address. After joining I started to get a flood of emails advertising Viagra, Cheap Software, and Search Engine Optimization, and Spamis. Most of this junk appears to derive from a Toronto based spammer named Robert Soloway. I suspect he has somehow found a way to get at Javaranch's user list. I reported this last year when it started, but my message was ignored.

I also began getting many of the same emails shortly after I joined JavaRanch... I never assoicated the two until now...
However, I have since changed my email address with JavaRanch, and I am not getting any of the spam at the new address (but continuing to get it on the old one). If the spammer did indeed compromise JavaRanch's user list, it appears to be fixed now... [ June 30, 2005: Message edited by: Paul Bourdeaux ]
